The Boeing 737 Classic is the -300/-400/-500 series of the Boeing 737, so named following the introduction of the -600/-700/-800/-900 series. They are short- to medium- range, narrow-body jet airliners produced by Boeing Commercial Airplanes. The Classic series was introduced as the ‘new generation’ of the 737 Produced from 1984 to 2000, 1,988 aircraft were delivered.

    This video has a lot more success than the previous one I made ("From the Flight Deck" in March 2017), which took a lot more effort to edit. It turns out to be a viral video and with that come the armchair professionals.
    The number one comment I get says I used too much yoke and created what we call "pilot induced oscillations".

    Is it true then? Yes it is, at least to some extent. Can it be done better? I'm sure it can.
    I fly gliders and aerobatic airplanes, I would say I use smaller and smoother inputs on the flight controls than many of my colleagues, but in gusty conditions we need to use more agressive responses on the flight controls (see the autopilot doing a lot of rapid inputs during the first 3 seconds of the video).
    What this video doesn't show very well is the turbulence level, which was fairly high. If the autopilot needs these rapid yoke corrections, you bet we will need them too when we handfly the airplane. Ask any 737 pilot how smooth the conditions are when the yoke moves like that (while the autopilot is engaged), refering to those first 3 seconds of the video.

    As a Captain, my job is to ensure the safe operation of the airplane, keep it within parameters, fly a stabilised approach (which is defined by a set of criteria, none include how much yoke is used but instead, being at the right airspeed, glide slope / loc displacement kept to a minimum, rate of descent not exceeding 1000fpm, etc).

    As for the landing itself, the aim is not for a smooth landing (not to say that we have to smash the airplane on the ground), but instead to land within the touchdown zone and ideally on the big rectangular blocks on the runway (painted in white, see at 2:12 in the video), on the centreline, at the right speed, with wings level and if possible decrabed (nose pointing down the runway). Which is what I did here.

    Can it be done better? Once again, yes it can. But probably not by the professional FSX pilots who are eager to comment how they could have flown this approach "much better".

    Second most frequent comment says the wind is not 25 knots. This video is uploaded in 1440p, enough resolution to be able to see the wind arrow displayed on the ND, showing between 24 and 28 knots during the whole final approach. Fly safe everyone

    Can someone clear me up? I once made an internship in a state authority that deals with air traffic. There were a lot of people working who were actual pilots. They told me that in a modern passenger airliner no pilot actually takes control of the flight or landing, because everything works with auto pilot. Even the touch down. This video seems to be a manual apporach and landing, can someone help me out how that comes?

    Why is the plane so unstable? It looks that the pilot has a lot of work to keep the plane leveled. Just wondering why they do not have some computer stabilization system..? I mean my 200$ RC plane has stabilization system and it is really easy to fly when auto stabilization function is ON.

    The cfm-56 is a beautiful engine, but nothing matches that deep rumble, that visceral shake you from inside out exhaust note that the JT8D of the 100/200 series of 737 had. The 727 packing 3 JT8D's was a long distance inside out massage. Frickin miss the 737-100/200, and the 727. Esp watching from behind as those engines spooled up to 100%, just…… amazing.
